DITV: UIHC pediatric patients receive sock monkeys

A new UIHC project is offering pediatric patients who have lost an eye the opportunity to interact with personalized sock moneys.

UI Clinical Assistant Professor, Audrey Ko, and student volunteer, Kenten Kingsbury, wanted to improve patient education and comfort for young patients who had one of their eyes removed due to circumstances such as traumatic injuries or cancer. Together, they came up with the idea to give out sock monkeys with winks painted on the corresponding eye that the patient just had removed. The sock monkeys bring comfort and a better understanding of surgical practices to the patients.
