Hawk Alert: Police interview suspect in Sunday morning sexual assault

UPDATE April 8, 1:30 p.m. — Police have taken a suspect into custody to be interviewed by detectives regarding Sunday morning’s Hawk Alert.

On Sunday at 5:19 a.m., the University of Iowa Department of Public Safety issued a Hawk Alert warning of a sexual assault that occurred in Slater Hall. The alert described the suspect as a white male between 18 and 20 years old, wearing a short-sleeve Hawaiian shirt and green and blue wristbands, with shoulder-length, wavy brown hair and no facial hair. He may have had a cut on his forehead, the alert said.

This incident took place at around 3:30 a.m., the alert said, and the suspect was last seen running down a stairwell in Slater. Police were notified of the incident at 4:54 a.m.

UI Public Safety public-information officer Hayley Bruce confirmed there was only one victim.
