Authorities have arrested an Iowa City man on a sexual-abuse charge.

Bartolo Arciniega, 30, 103 Apache Trail, is suspected of third-degree sexual abuse occurring on April 2, 2016.

According to the arrest affidavit, the girl, who was 12 or 13 years old at the time of the incident, woke up and saw Arciniega lying by the side of her bed, trying to hide. The girl’s underwear had been removed, and she saw evidence of sexual abuse, the affidavit said.

Arciniega then crawled out of the room while the girl pretended to be asleep, the affidavit said.

The girl reported the incident to her mother and school staff, the affidavit said.

Third-degree sexual abuse is a Class-C felony.
