Authorities have accused an Iowa City man of injury.

Christopher Mason, 41, 1133 Hotz Ave., was charged Jan. 20 with willful injury.

According to the arrest affidavit, officers received a call about a woman being assaulted at the intersection of Jefferson St. and Governor St. Officers found the victim away from her home and took her back, the affidavit said.

The victim said Mason used a broken window to get into her house, the affidavit said, where she was then assaulted. Multiple injuries were found on the victim, the affidavit said, such as bite marks on her hands, fingers, and head.

Mason, the affidavit said, chased the victim around her home to attempt to choke her. He then pinned her to the ground, the affidavit said, and strangled her until she almost lost consciousness. The victim reported the front and back of her neck hurt, the affidavit said.

As Mason was chasing her, the affidavit said, the victim told officers Mason was screaming he was going to kill her. The victim was afraid for her life, the affidavit said, and she feels if she had passed out and not escaped, Mason would have killed her.

Willful injury is a Class-D felony.
