The University of Iowa Department of Public Safety issued an advisory on the evening of Dec. 8 after receiving a report of a person being grabbed outside an East Side residence hall.

According to the advisory, a white male around 6 foot approached a person from behind just before 2:30 a.m. Dec. 8. The suspect bear-hugged the person and grabbed the person’s wrist before the person resisted, ending the incident.

Officials described the suspect as having an average build, no facial hair, and wearing a hooded sweatshirt. He was also reported to have been intoxicated.

The advisory urges anyone with information about the incident to contact the UI police.

With more students out studying late into the night as finals week approaches, the UI police remind students of safety resources such as Nite Ride, the SHOUT program, and the Rave Guardian mobile app available for students to use.
