Authorities have issued a warrant for the arrest of a Cedar Rapids man on a robbery charge.

Eddie Ayers, 22, is suspected of second-degree robbery, second-degree theft, domestic abuse/assault, first-degree harassment, and fourth-degree criminal mischief in connection with an incident on Nov. 4.

According to the affidavit, officers were called to Kum & Go in Coralville following reports of a vehicle theft. Ayers is the woman’s ex-boyfriend from two years ago, the affidavit said, and they shared a child together.

The woman told officers, according to the affidavit, that Ayers choked her several times, took her keys, and punched the windows, shattering at least two. Ayers then left the area with the vehicle, the affidavit said. The woman had no noticeable injuries at the time.

When the woman was brought to the Coralville police station for questioning, the affidavit said, she received a text message from Ayers saying, “I’m going to kill you.”

The woman is the only person the vehicle registered to, the affidavit said. The vehicle, the affidavit said, is valued around $9,000.

Second-degree robbery is a Class-C felony, and second-degree theft is a Class-D felony.
