Authorities have a warrant for the arrest of a Coralville man for assault while in prison.

Derrick Reimers, 19, is suspected of committing willful injury resulting in injury and assault on persons in certain occupations on Oct. 30.

According to the affidavit, Reimers, who is an inmate at the Iowa Medical & Classification Center, attacked a person in the shower, using two makeshift weapons. One was a metal screw attached to a toothbrush, the affidavit said, and the other was a metal screw attached to a pen with a shoelace.

Reimers admitted to attacking the victim, the affidavit said, but said he only did so because the person had just called him a “b***h.”

A prison guard attempted to stop the fight, the affidavit said, but Reimers struck the guard with one of his weapons, drawing blood from the guard’s neck.

Willful injury and assault on persons in certain occupations are Class-D felonies.
