Food, children activities, live music and a beautiful day. That’s what made up the Make-A-Wish Iowa City fundraiser event, Wish Upon an Apple Tree.
The goal of this event was to not only raise money to make these wishes come true but to also raise awareness for Make-A-wish and to inform the public about all that the organization does.
Here, children were able to enjoy some fun activities while adults could sip on some adult beverages while betting on the silent auction items which raises money to help grant wishes.
“Our goal, we’re hoping to raise enough to grant one wish through our event and hopefully more,” said Bri Swope, the Iowa City Make-A-Wish Committee Chair.
Make-A-wish families and recipients also spoke at the event to share what Make-A-Wish has done for them. Jared Lueders, was a wish recipient 20 years ago.
Now he works for the organization that made his wish come true and he helps grant wishes.
“Getting the opportunity to raise money for a great opportunity and something dear to my heart. And I just want to tell everybody that it means a lot to everybody. Not just the wish child but the family,” said Jared Leuders, a Make-A-Wish recipient.
