Authorities have accused a Iowa City man of child endangerment.

Manuel Reyes, 26, 143 Arabian Court, was charged Sept. 30 with child endangerment resulting in serious injury.

According to the arrest affidavit, officers went to Reyes’s residence at 8:40 a.m. on Sept. 30 in response to a domestic disturbance. Numerous witnesses, as well as the victim, told officers Reyes had pointed a handgun at the victim outside the home, the affidavit said.

The victim told officers, the affidavit said, Reyes hit his and the victim’s child on the leg, leaving a handprint and resulting in an argument. During the argument, the affidavit said, Reyes also hit the victim.

Also, the affidavit said, Reyes took property from the victim, saying he would destroy it. The victim followed Reyes around until he pointed the gun at her, the affidavit said, and the victim said she feared for her life.

Officers found Reyes pacing near a shed on the property, the affidavit said, and Reyes admitted to having a .38 revolver during the argument. Reyes told officers he left his residence to throw the gun in a nearby pond when the police were called, the affidavit said, but offices then found the gun under the shed.

Child endangerment resulting in serious injury is a Class-C felony.
