Authorities have accused a Rock Island man of trying to pass a bad check.

Alfonso Reid, 44, was charged Sept. 28 with forgery.

According to the arrest affidavit, Reid went to Great Western Bank in North Liberty to cash a check. The teller later told officers, the affidavit said, that Reid acted nervous and the check seemed different from others.

The teller became suspicious, the affidavit said, and called the company the check belonged to; the company said the check was fake.

Reid then admitted the check was fake, the affidavit said, and he was given it by someone he doesn’t know and would receive part of the money from the check after it was cashed.

Forgery is a Class-D felony.
