Maryland head coach DJ Durkin spoke to members of the media at the Big Ten Media Days to discuss the upcoming 2017-2018 season.
  • D.J. Durkin with big praise for local high school coaches. Said they prepare their players well for a smooth transition from high school to the collegiate level.
  • On playing Texas in the season opener: “When you know you’re up against a worthy opponent, your focus tightens up a bit… there’s no easing into the season.”
  • “We’re certainly a lot closer [to competing for a division title]. I like where we’re at.”
  • “I really feel like in our backyard, there’s a strong group of talent every year. If you do well in your backyard, you can survive on it. I’m not sure that is the case everywhere.”
  • “The players win the games.”
