Authorities have accused an Iowa City man of possessing marijuana.

Brett Wilkins, 20, 422 Church St., was charged May 10 with a controlled substance violation, keeping premise/vehicle for a controlled substance, and failure to affix a drug tax stamp.

According to the arrest affidavit, the U.S. Postal Service found a suspicious package addressed to go to Wilkins’ address. When officials searched the package, they eportedly discovered five pounds of marijuana and more than 220 grams of marijuana wax, the affidavit said.

Wilkins called the Postal Service to see when his package would arrive, the affidavit said, and the package was delivered to Wilkins’ residence. Officers got a search warrant for the contents of the package, the affidavit said, and Wilkins allegedly made statements claiming to own the items.

Wilkins has been taken into custody, the affidavit said.

A controlled-substance violation and failure to affix drug tax stamp are Class-D felonies.
