The Iowa men’s and women’s track teams started their indoor seasons on Jan. 7, competing against Missouri and Illinois in the annual Border Battle. The women swept the meet, beating Missouri, 105-33, and Illinois, 96-51. The men split, losing to Illinois, 85-74, and beating Missouri, 107-27.

“I was happy to see everybody come out and compete,” Joey Woody, the Iowa director of track and field, said in a release. “When you leave for winter break, it can be tough to keep things going, but most of our athletes did a good job of staying fit over break.”

Men’s decathlete William Dougherty set personal bests in pole vault, high jump, and 60-meter hurdles.

Tria Seawater-Simmons hit 12.38 meters in the triple jump on the women’s side, setting a meet record and second-best jump in school history.

“We competed at a high level,” Woody said in the release. “We still have a long way to go, and just looking at how our team sets up in the Big Ten, we will be pretty good. It’s a matter of putting it all together.”
