Don’t let politics dirty Iowa’s air

Growing up in Iowa, some of my fondest memories are of being outside enjoying clear skies and fresh air. I’m proud of where I’m from, especially now that Iowa is the country’s leader in wind energy with 31 percent of our energy coming from wind.

The death of Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia leaves a justice seat vacant and the future of our clean-energy future undetermined. The Clean Power Plan is currently on hold because of a Supreme Court ruling in February. It’s President Obama’s constitutional duty to nominate a new justice; however, Iowa Sen. Chuck Grassley and Senate Republicans have stated they will not confirm a new justice until after the November election.

It’s crucial the nominee furthers the fight in combating climate change and defends the progress we’ve made to build a clean energy economy.

Grassley plays a vital role in continuing our progress to a cleaner future. Electing a new justice is crucial in the transition to a clean-energy economy.

I am calling on Grassley to do his job and hold a confirmation hearing for a new Supreme Court justice in a timely manner. It’s his responsibility as an elected official to put our nation ahead of partisan politics. We have an opportunity to make this happen, but we need Grassley’s help, and we need your help as well.
