Iowa assistant coach Jim Reid is headed to Boston College to become the Eagles’ next defensive coordinator and linebacker coach.

Reid joined the Hawkeyes after the turbulent 2012 season and had a nice run of success during his time in Iowa City.

“First, I would like to thank Kirk Ferentz for the opportunity to work at Iowa; it was an honor to work with so many great players, fans, and staff. I have great confidence in Steve Addazio’s leadership and the direction his program is headed,” Reid said in a release. “Boston College is a very special place; I know this because I worked there in 1994 around some dedicated, wonderful people in a very close-knit Jesuit community. BC develops great young people and is just a tremendous institution.”

Reid — who started coaching in 1973 — has a bit of history with the Eagles. He was the team’s defensive coordinator in 1994, a season in which the team finished 7-4-1 and No. 23 in the country. In fact, Reid has a tremendous amount of coaching experience. He spent 17 years as a head coach and has held a defensive-coordinator position at four (now five) different schools.

All that experience is incredibly valuable and a big part of the turnaround for Iowa this season. Reid also was starting to recruit a bit for the Hawkeyes, which will be another place in which the team feels his absence.

“Jim Reid has played a key role in our success in his three years on our staff, and we wish him continued success at Boston College,” Iowa head coach Kirk Ferentz said in a release. “Jim is a tireless worker who builds strong relationships with his players and his fellow coaches. He has been a very valuable member of our staff, and his contributions to the program go beyond the playing field.”

No new Hawkeye linebacker coach has been announced, and while rumors are flying, it seems nothing is concrete at this moment.
