The Iowa women’s tennis team improved on its finish at the Furman Fall Classic with a much improved showing at the Purdue Invitational.
Each of Iowa’s four women invited to Purdue were in pools of four players, and they played one match a day in a round-robin setup.

Junior Natalie Looney, junior Aimee Tarun, freshman Adorabol Huckleby, and sophomore Zoe Douglas each won two of their three singles matches.

To say that it is a good sign for Iowa to come out with a team win-loss total of 8-4 is an understatement, because the Hawkeyes are quite often underdogs.

This year’s team, however, is incredibly fresh. The players compete to the best of their abilities in order to make a name for Iowa women’s tennis.

Head coach Katie Dougherty is optimistic the Hawkeyes. After her players’ performances, she has no reason to be anything but hopeful.

“I think we took steps forward this weekend,” she said in a release. “We were making a lot more quality balls, competing well, and making adjustments.”

“Overall, I’m very pleased with the group that traveled and thought they did a very good job building on last weekend,” she said.

Two of the four Hawkeyes, Huckleby and Douglas, who went to Purdue are in their first college fall season.

“[Huckleby]  in particular has made huge strides these last couple weeks, and I am happy to see her hard work paying off and the momentum she has gained,” Dougherty said.
